Furnace
Where the river runs cold but the forges never sleep.
The Furnace is one of the battle arenas in Clash Royale, a card-based strategy game where two players construct elixir-powered armies and clash across a river. Set in a scorching industrial landscape of molten metal, roaring forges, and belching smokestacks, the Furnace arena pits commanders against each other on a standard single-bridge battlefield punctuated by fire-spitting obstacle structures that punish careless troop placement.
As a mid-to-late progression arena, the Furnace represents a stage where players have access to a wider roster of troops and spells, and the map's central fire hazards demand careful pathing and timing. It is a fan-favorite setting for its dramatic, high-heat aesthetic and the way its obstacles create natural chokepoints that reward disciplined, lane-aware play.

Lore & Background
In the world of Clash Royale, the kingdoms are never truly at peace. Between the Bone Pits and the frost-bitten northern reaches, there exists a stretch of land where ancient forges have burned without ceasing for generations. The smelting operations that once supplied the warlords with iron and steel have outlived their masters, and the great furnaces still roar with a heat that turns the surrounding earth to glass. The river that cuts through this industrial scar is the only cool thing for miles, and both sides of the conflict have long since claimed it as a natural border.
The Furnace arena, as it is known to the players who march across it, is the battlefield that grew up around those eternal fires. Two furnace structures sit on either bank near the center, their mouths glowing white-hot, spitting embers into the air. Troops that wade too close are singed and slowed, and the smoke that curls upward from the stacks makes the whole map shimmer with heat distortion. The single stone bridge over the river is the only crossing, and every battle that takes place here funnels through that narrow span while the forges crackle and pop in the background.
Players who have ground through the earlier arenas recognize the Furnace as a test of patience. The fire obstacles reward those who use them to funnel enemy pushes and punish over-eager charges, while punishing those who carelessly dump a full push into the kill-zone. It is an arena that feels alive, as though the very ground is breathing heat, and many a crown has been lost to a single misplaced Giant or a Hog Rider who forgot the flames were still lit.
In Their Own Story
The elixir pools were low. Kael watched the bridge from behind his tower, counting the seconds between his opponent's pushes. Across the river, a Barbarian Horde was already forming, and behind them, a Giant lumbered forward with that slow, inevitable patience.
The furnace on his side of the map spat a gout of flame, and a stray ember drifted across the water. Kael's thumb hovered over the spell card. Not yet. The Giant was close, but not close enough to the fire obstacle to be caught in its radius. If he dropped the fireball now, the Horde would scatter, but the Giant would simply keep walking, and the whole push would reset.
He waited. The Giant's fist came down on the bridge, cracking the stone. The Horde surged forward. And then—there. The Giant's feet touched the scorched earth around the furnace, and the flames licked up his legs. He staggered. The Horde, bunched tight behind him, walked straight into the fire's reach.
Kael exhaled. The tower's cannon roared. The bridge shook. And the forges, indifferent to who won, kept burning.
Reader's Guide
The Furnace arena is a standard single-bridge map: a river splits the field horizontally, and one bridge crosses it at the center. The visual theme is industrial and molten—iron walkways, glowing slag channels, smokestacks belching grey plumes, and a sky perpetually tinged orange by the heat. The ground has a cracked, glassy texture where the forges have baked the earth.
The key features are two Furnace obstacles, one on each side of the river near the center of the map. They are large, open-mouthed forge structures that emit a cone of fire damage. Any troop that walks into the flame radius takes continuous fire damage, effectively creating a kill-zone on either side of the bridge approach. They do not block movement the way a wall or chest would, but they punish troops that path through or linger near them.
Strategically, the Furnace obstacles create a natural funnel. Enemy pushes that come down the center lane are safe, but any troop that drifts toward the flanks to dodge or to hit a tower can be caught in the fire. This rewards players who use the center lane for heavy tanks (Giants, Golems, Hog Riders) while keeping swarms and splash troops on the edges. Conversely, a player can deliberately lure an opponent's push toward the furnace by placing a small tank on the flank, forcing the enemy to commit troops into the damage zone.
The single bridge means all pushes converge on one point, making the timing of spells (Fireball, Zap, Arrows) and defensive placement even more critical than on multi-bridge maps. The heat-themed visuals also make it easy to track the action: the glowing orange of the furnaces contrasts sharply with the cooler blue of the river, giving players a clear visual anchor for where the danger zones are.
Did You Know?
- The Furnace obstacles deal fire damage over time rather than a single burst, meaning a slow tank like a Giant will take more total damage than a fast troop that passes through quickly.
- Because the map is a standard single-bridge layout, every offensive push funnels through the same narrow crossing, making the Furnace arena one of the most spell-dependent maps in the game.
- The industrial, forge-based theme of the Furnace contrasts sharply with the natural or fantasy settings of neighboring arenas, giving it a distinct 'man-made' feel in an otherwise organic world.
- The fire obstacles do not generate elixir or spawn troops; they are purely environmental hazards, making them one of the simpler obstacle types in the game's arsenal.
